Nurse Assistant/ Home Health Aide with State Exam
The Nurse Assistant training program prepares students for an entry‑level career in healthcare and for the Massachusetts State Board exam to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). The course includes certifications in Home Health Aide, CPR, and CMS Hand in Hand Dementia Training, as well as a supervised clinical experience in a local long‑term care facility with a Registered Nurse Instructor. Students learn hands‑on skills in our state‑licensed lab, including: 1. Taking vital signs 2. Moving and turning patients 3. Personal care and hygiene 4. Bed making, bathing, and feeding 5. Basic record keeping 6. Responding to emergencies The program is open to students age 16 and older. To become a CNA in Massachusetts, students must take and pass the State Board exam. Health Care Requirements for Non-Credit Health Courses:
1. Accuplacer Placement Exam: Required if you do not have prior college credits. Students must meet minimum Math and Reading scores. Visit the Testing Center to schedule: https://www.northshore.edu/cas/testing/index.html
2. A CORI background check.
3. Proof of immunizations, a negative TB test, a COVID-19 vaccine with a booster, or a drug screening may be required for certain healthcare classes.
4. You will receive an email from jmccloud@northshore.edu before the first class after registration, containing the student healthcare packet. This packet must be reviewed, electronically signed, and submitted prior to the start of class.
