Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy Technicians are in high demand, with employment expected to reach 400,000 by 2025 due to factors like new drug developments, pharmacist shortages, and an aging population. Working under licensed pharmacists in various healthcare settings, technicians play a vital role in patient care. This comprehensive course prepares students for a career in pharmacy and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Topics include medical terminology, prescription interpretation, and generic vs. brand-name drugs. Exam not included in the cost of the program. Health Care Requirements for Non-Credit Health courses: 1. Accuplacer Placement Exam: If you do not have previous college credits students are required to take the Math and Reading Assessment (Accuplacer) and meet or exceed required score. Proof of immunizations, a negative TB test, a COVID-19 vaccine with a booster, or a drug screening may be required for certain healthcare classes. You will receive an email from jmccloud@northshore.edu before the first class, containing the student healthcare packet. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. Prepares you to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board & PTCB exam(s): Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Pharmacy Technician Associate Certification (PTAC).
