About This Course
Start a career in one of healthcare’s fastest-growing fields. Medical billing and coding professionals ensure accurate insurance claims and timely provider reimbursement. In this hands-on program, you’ll learn medical terminology, body systems, and specialties; apply ethical billing practices; and accurately use ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-PCS codes. You’ll also build professional communication skills for healthcare settings.

Certifications
Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to take leading certification exams, including: NWCA Medical Billing & Coding Specialist (MBCS) NHA Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

Costs
The cost includes the required textbook. Exams are not included in the cost of the program.

Entry and Healthcare Requirements
--Accuplacer Placement Exam, meeting the minimum Math and Reading scores, if you do not have prior college credits
--CORI background check
--Proof of immunizations, a negative TB test, a COVID-19 vaccine with a booster, or a drug screening may be required for certain healthcare classes
--You will receive an email from jmccloud@northshore.edu before the first class, containing the student healthcare packet. This packet must be reviewed, electronically signed, and submitted prior to the start of class.
