Medical Billing & Coding About This Course Start a career in one of healthcare’s fastest-growing fields. Medical billing and coding professionals ensure accurate insurance claims and timely provider reimbursement. In this hands-on program, you’ll learn medical terminology, body systems, and specialties; apply ethical billing practices; and accurately use ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-PCS codes. You’ll also build professional communication skills for healthcare settings. Certifications Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to take leading certification exams, including: NWCA Medical Billing & Coding Specialist (MBCS) NHA Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Costs The cost includes the required textbook. Exams are not included in the cost of the program. Entry and Healthcare Requirements Accuplacer Placement Exam, meeting the minimum Math and Reading scores, if you do not have prior college credits CORI background check Proof of immunizations, a negative TB test, a COVID-19 vaccine with a booster, or a drug screening may be required for certain healthcare classes You will receive an email from jmccloud@northshore.edu before the first class, containing the student healthcare packet.
