Phlebotomy

About this course In this course, students will learn how to safely perform blood draws (venipuncture and microcollection) and handle specimens properly. Topics include medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, blood collection techniques, and collecting other types of specimens within a phlebotomist’s role. Externship Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. Certifications Course prepares students for the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam. Costs Course includes CPR, required textbooks, and national exam fee. Entry and Healthcare Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Accuplacer Placement Exam, meeting the minimum Math and Reading scores, if you do not have prior college credits Proof of immunizations, a negative TB test, a COVID-19 vaccine with a booster, or a drug screening may be required for certain healthcare classes. You will receive an email from jmccloud@northshore.edu before the first class, containing the student healthcare packet.
